The alumni are a very important part of the AHS family. As a partner of the school, the Alumni Association exists to serve the alumni and support the school in its programme and development.
The annual Alumni Chinese New Year Lunch is an event which the Alumni Association takes it upon itself to organize for teachers and alumni, past and present. This is because we cherish the relationship and friendship that we have with each other, and so effort has to be made to help our teachers and alumni to continue to stay connected with each other. This year, the lunch was held on 7th March, Saturday. We had the honour of having in attendance Miss Tang Pui Eu, our ex-principal who served the school from 1977 to 1983. It was indeed like a homecoming event for many teachers and alumni, who reminisced of good old days spent together, and shared the joy of renewing old ties. We also gave out the Moo Soon Chong Student Leadership Award to our deserving students and alumni for the second year. The recipients of this award had demonstrated exemplary character, outstanding leadership skills and made significant contributions to the school, based on recommendations by their teachers. We are happy to be able to play a part to give recognition to the good work, leadership and contributions by our students and alumni.
2015 marked a very significant milestone for the Alumni Association. We held the election of our new Executive Committee office bearers and members on 27th June. We received overwhelming support from our alumni through their enthusiastic involvement in electing the new committee. Mr Seah Poh Chua, former Vice Chairman of the association, had moved up to take over the position of Chairman from our former Chairman, Mr Jeffreh Goh. Mr Wee Soon Keong was voted Vice Chairman. Under their leadership, the association will be responsible for leading the association to greater heights. There are two main tasks at hand for the new committee. Firstly, we will be crafting our vision and mission statement to better position and align ourselves to the needs of the school and alumni. Secondly, we are making preparations for the school’s 60th Anniversary Dinner, which will take place in 2016.
The renovated club room had received numerous bookings over the past one year by alumni for class gatherings. We hope that the club room will continue to be a place where alumni can meet and strengthen their bonds.
