Our Approach
We seek to equip our students with 21st Century skills and dispositions of a science student and to experience the joy of learning science through learner-centred approaches.
The key approach is inquiry-based learning (IBL), where students are inquirers and teachers are facilitators as shown by the hands in the MOE science curriculum framework below.
In IBL, we use the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate , Evaluate), which provides a structure for students to connect science ideas with their experiences and apply their learning to new contexts.
Learner Outcomes
We aim to nurture our students to be:
- scientifically literate
- innovative
- values-driven
- effective communicators
- passionate in pursuing Science for future learning and work
Key Programmes:
Programme | Level | Description |
---|
Dynamic Science
| Sec 1 & 2 | Lower secondary science students are given hands-on experiences to learn how to apply scientific knowledge to solve real-world issues.
Secondary One students experience the maker culture through the toy-making project, where they work in small groups to make a real toy based on scientific concepts and using simple materials. Besides learning teamwork, they also learn how to communicate science concepts effectively.
Secondary Two students learn about food security and experience growing vegetables in the laboratory using a vegetable growing kit. They become more aware of the opportunities in using science and technology to overcome Singapore’s constraints.

Talent Development
| Sec 1 to 4 | Students are given opportunities to spark their interest and to develop their talents in science through various programmes and competitions. Examples include:
**A) Upper Sec:**
* Junior Olympiads (Biology, Chemistry & Physics)
* National STEM Challenge
* Research at Singapore Science Centre (Cradle)
* International Science Youth Forum (IYSF)
* Research at A*STAR
* In-house workshops e.g. dissection of animals
* Attend talks by science researchers
* VJC Science Fair
**B)Lower Sec:**
* In-house science workshops
* In-house competitions
* External competitions e.g. STEM Playground by Science Centre
* Conduct science workshop for Red Swastika Primary school students
* Facilitators of science experiments during Open House

Enrichment
Students are given learning experiences beyond the school through various learning journeys and workshops conducted by Institutes of Higher Learning (e.g. NUS, Temasek Poly), Victoria Junior College, Singapore Science Centre, Gardens by the Bay and the National Kidney Foundation.
