Sec 1 Showcase Day
Theme: A Celebration of Learning
Held on 11 October 2014 as a post-examination activity, the inaugural Secondary One Showcase Day was organised to
• Showcase the Sec One students’ academic and co-curricular achievements
• Engage the Sec One parents in celebrating and affirming their child’s achievements for the year (End-It-Strong)
To promote student ownership, students choose the project they want to showcase and the mode of showcase – booth display or live presentation.
To promote student leadership, an organising committee made up of Sec One Student Councillors, AHSMB Scholars and Class Leaders, was set up. Under the mentorship of the Year Heads, they took on different responsibilities, such as designing the programme booklet, making the photo montage, planning the venue setup, facilitating the concurrent sessions, and duties such as ushering and emcee.
The event began with a Chinese flute performance by 60 students, showcasing the new skill learnt in Appreciation of Chinese Culture lessons. This was followed by the Principal’s Address and a photo montage of key events in 2014. Thereafter, parents proceeded to view the displays or presentations.
Projects on showcase included Science projects on in-vitro fertilisation, Math projects on tessellation, English personal recount projects, Literature shape poems, Chinese paintings and reading projects, and i-SCoRe projects on redesigning food packaging or creating healthy meals for diet-related diseases. Some booths even provided food sampling of the created meals!
Turnout was impressive with more than 400 guests. Hearing our Secondary Ones confidently present their projects was a heart-warming experience. Indeed, the intent of celebrating and affirming every child’s work has been fulfilled.
