AHS Cares (Values-in-Action)
AHS Cares is a concerted school effort to contribute to the community. Students plan and execute community projects by a model advocating the process of ‘Awareness-Action-Actualisation-Advocacy’.
Secondary 1 students choose their target communities and raise “Awareness” about the communities. In Secondary 2, they translate their ideas into “Action” using the Design Thinking approach, as part of their i-SCoRe projects that produce useful prototypes for the target communities.
Secondary 3 students bring cheer to residents in the Fengshan Neighbourhood, distributing mandarin oranges during Chinese New Year and they undergo a Service Learning Project with their peers from their CCAs, advocating and actualising ideas that benefit the target communities. In Secondary 4, students continue their VIA journey by participating in the annual Recycling Project, championing a green cause for the environment!
Through these programmes, students learn about the diverse needs of different communities and how to best make a positive impact and create value for others.
So Hui Xin (Class 4J):
Through the school's VIA programme, I better understand some of the key issues our society faces and how we can actively do our part to help. The VIA experience has allowed me to cultivate a deeper sense of empathy and I have learned to be more compassionate.
Joey Hoo Jia En (Class 4A):
I learnt about how giving is better than receiving. Taking part in VIA activities gave me a sense of accomplishment and I’m glad that I could impact the lives of others in small simple ways.
